HAUNTED HUNTSVILLE EXPERIENCES FAQ
WHY DOES A COFFEE SHOP DO HAUNTED STUFF?
C.A.T. Cafe Bakery has the unique advantage of being located in a haunted historic jailhouse. Over the course of years from September 2019, when we first decided to make this jailhouse our cafe home, to the present, we have daily experiences with our many in-house spirits. Quite a change for being non-believers at the beginning. Spirits reside here both on the 1st floor of the building and the 2nd floor jail cells which we use for storage. Over time, more seem to have come to join the party. This has inspired us to learn about the history of not only our building, but our surrounding town. Dr. Caroline Crimm of Historic Tours of Texas is our mentor and inspiration.
WHAT IS THE HAUNTED HUNTSVILLE EXPERIENCE?
We have developed several different ways for non-paranormal teams to enjoy the spooky.
Paranormal teams may contact Elizabeth to request other specific opportunities.
1) We have an evening guided walking tour of the Huntsville Downtown Square. Our guide will share history, hauntings, and hidden spots in downtown Huntsville to enliven your imagination.
2) We have coordinated with Historic Tours of Texas to create a cemetery crawl that includes other areas of Huntsville, such as the Walls, a former funeral home, maybe the bat house, if the timing is right and many other historic haunted locations.
*Note: Folks who are not physically able to handle the walking tour can combine all parts into a bus tour. Otherwise, these experiences can be either in a downtown walking tour or a bus tour, or a combination of both.
3) We have developed a Guided Paranormal (after-hours) Investigation of the 1st floor Jailhouse. We provide the KII meters, Spirit Box, Tesla Ball and other varied ghost hunting equipment. We will spend 1.5 to 2 hours with you in our building communicating with our residents.
4) We coordinate with Deep Woods Paranormal to enable you to join one of their extended 4 hour experiences. These can be coordinated with the bus cemetery crawl and other locations.
WILL WE GO INSIDE THE BUILDINGS DURING THE BUS OR WALKING EXPEREINCES?
NO: This is an external tour on public sidewalks and public streets. Most buildings we pass will be closed, thus we will not enter. We highly encourage you to go back and visit these sites during their regular business hours. Some are known for the experiences that customers often have.
HOWEVER: The tour will start and end at the C.A.T. Cafe Bakery located on the first floor of the historic and haunted decommissioned Walker County Jail. Here you may order one of our 100+ hand-crafted drinks or a snack before the tour begins.
IS THIS A WALKING TOUR OR A BUS TOUR?
You get to tell us your preference. We can do one or the other or both. If walking long distances is difficult, we can do it all on the bus.
Whether walking tour or the luxury tour bus, wear comfortable shoes! You will traverse outside dim and uneven areas. Be prepared for a 60 to 90 minute event with no public restrooms during the tour.
IS THE EXPERIENCE FAMILY FRIENDLY?
The experiences are not designed for young children. You may arrange for a Family Friendly Tour with C.A.T. Cafe Bakery. All children 18 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Be sure that your child has the stamina for the event.
WILL IT BE SCARY?
Nothing will jump out at you. However, we will be talking about spooky topics which could give you a good tingle.
WHAT IF IT RAINS?
In the case of active rain, the tour WILL be canceled. With inclines and declines, we don't want to risk slipping. If the rain has passed and the ground is still damp, we WILL NOT cancel the tour.
IT DIDN'T RAIN. WHY WAS MY TOUR CANCELLED?
Tours may also be cancelled for the following reasons: unexpected emergencies, 3 or less tickets sold before the tour, and other extreme acts of nature. We make every effort to avoid cancellations. In the event of cancellations, we will make every effort to notify you as soon as the decision is made. Refunds or credit will be given for tours canceled by C.A.T. Cafe Bakery.
WILL I SEE A GHOST?
There are no guarantees that you will see a ghost. They do not perform on a schedule. However, much of Huntsville is known to be haunted. We have had many experiences with being contacted/touched by spirits or KII meters lighting.
WHAT IF I CATCH SOMETHING IN MY PICTURES?
Be prepared to take pictures or video to see if you catch anything unusual. We would love for you to share images with us at QuirkyBaker@CATCafeBakery.com. We will load them to our gallery with credit, unless anonymity is requested.
I DON'T BELIEVE IN GHOSTS.
You don't need to believe in ghosts to enjoy this historical haunted experience. We respect that. There may be believers in your group; we ask that you please respect their enjoyment of this tour. We will give you a unique experience to remember, with stories about the long history of this old Texas town. Much has happened here. You will walk the same paths that Sam Houston and other historical figures trod.
WHAT TIME SHOULD I ARRIVE?
The tours will depart from the C.A.T. Cafe as designated. Please arrive about 30 minutes early to set yourself up with any drinks or snacks you may wish to order from C.A.T. Cafe to take on the experience.
